My Top Ten Films of 2009

It's that time of year again where everyone has had their fun with their respective holidays of either Christmas, Chanukah, or Kwanzaa and are now looking towards the new year that is quickly approaching. And what a better way to celebrate the new year than to reflect on this past year of great movies by posting my own personal list of my top ten films of 2009! Now these ten films are in no particular order of better to worse, they're just in alphabetical order. Also, the personal insights I give on every film are very short because I'm a lazy asshole. Enjoy?

500 Days of Summer

A very refreshing romantic comedy that might not actually fall into the category of romantic comedy at all.

A Serious Man

A movie that explores the randomness of life and asks the question "what does it all mean?" Another great film from the Coen brothers.

District 9

A science fiction masterpiece? Perhaps!

Drag Me To Hell

Evil Dead/Spider-man director Sam Raimi returns to his horror roots with this highly entertaining horror comedy.

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Wes Anderson brings Roald Dahl's beloved children's book to life in this wonderfully executed stop motion animated film.

Inglourious Basterds

Brad Pitt, Quentin Tarantino, and Nazis. Sounds like the right ingredients for the best Tarantino film since Pulp Fiction!

Moon

A sci-fi mystery thriller that is both surprising and engrossing. A great performance from Sam Rockwell.

Observe And Report

Seth Rogen plays a very different and utterly disturbing character in this sinisterly funny dark comedy directed by Jody Hill.

Star Trek

I never thought I'd say it but this movie made me like Star Trek. It's a superbly written, acted, and directed film. Easily one of the best of the year.

Up In The Air

A funny, romantic, and tragic film about a man who fires people for a living and isn't interested in trying to make a real human connection with anyone. A great movie from the very promising, up and coming filmmaker Jason Reitman.
